A few weeks back, I was sitting around thinking about what it actually means to “Mother the World” I mean really take the time for ourselves, for each other and mother the world.
The concept and idea inspired me to create a sermon. I think that many of us are disillusioned by the fact that if we have not given birth to a child, then we are not a mother. Well I beg to differ with you because I have met Mothers along the way who have given birth to their children and have no idea how to be a Mother, and then their are women who have not had children of their own and make the best darn Mothers in the world and don’t even know it.
What does it take to be a good mother? What does it take to Mother our world? Especially today? I would say courage to do what is right, compassion to know better, and conviction to stand your ground when your morals, or beliefs are being threatened.
What does it take to be a good mother? A sense of self, and a sense of where you fit in in the world, A strong knowing that you are here to not only mother your own children but all the Earth’s children big, small, and everything in between. An ability to take care of yourself when the going gets tough and to know when to throw the towel in for a split second to recharge your batteries so you can get back out there and do what you need to do.
What does it take to be a good mother? Knowing that you are a soft place to fall for the ones that have lost hope, Knowing that your sense of leadership and determination to make the world a better place is a constant battle between good and bad but you don’t falter, you don’t hesitate to do what is right, what is just.
What does it take to be a good mother? You being you from the warrior priestess, to the blessed Mother essence that streams from your heart of hearts. You showing your pain and making it part of your purpose, You exclaiming your joy and admiration for days and times gone by that are just a passing memory that you wish to pass on to others.
We are all Mothers doing the best we can with what we know, what we have been shown and what we believe is right and just. We all come from a generation of Mothers who have done the same, and will continue to do the same and so on and so on.
We are the ones leading our sons and daughters of the world out of the fire, the wreckage the chaos because we know what is on the other side and when we lead by example we are strength in numbers too big to count.
We are the Mothers to the weak ones, who have lost their way or maybe did not have one to begin with, but we hold their hands firmly, nudging them to move forward, empowering them with their own set of wisdom and rules of life that make sense to them. We slowly get them to fly out of the nest-pointing them in the direction of their true north hoping they will fly, hoping they will grasp the true sense of their identity and truly understand their full potential and why they are here.
We are, You are, I am, You!! Mothers, Lovers, Wives, and Daughters, Sisters, Aunts, Grandmas, and Grandpas, Sons, and Brothers, Uncles, and Husbands Mothering each other on this Big Beautiful Marble we call Mother Earth.
