The playful path to self-discovery and life purpose….

Are you someone who says I feel stuck and tired and I don’t know what to do?

Do you find yourself thinking “I don’t know where to begin, I don’t know what I want to do? “And yet you feel this tiny little spark inside that wants out?

Well my friends I am going to tell you I have been there with you. I still have moments where I am there, but they are less and less and I don’t allow myself to spend so much time in that space that consumes me with self-doubt, or fear, or worry, or concerns anymore.

Augustine-TruthAnd you know what? I am going to share it with you right now and let that “truth lion out”

So here it is!! The Truth Lion Let out:

You don’t have to sacrifice fun for hard work. You can marry the two and let them work for you not against you. Let me explain how that works.

Most of us have this notion that unless we finish our chores, our job, our obligations-meaning work, then we cannot play, we cannot have fun, for if we did that would mean that we are not taking our job, our work, our obligations seriously. We might even feel like we are slacking off.

And yet on the other hand-when we have too much fun in our lives we might neglect our obligations, our work and our jobs. Either way you look at it, you start to feel grumpy, guilty and unfulfilled. When what you you really want to feel is happy, healthy and satisfied.

So what is it that we are doing wrong here? Nothing really, we are doing exactly what we have been told, taught and conditioned to believe for so many years.

Work hard and you get your reward (Ugh). Work hard and when there is time left at the end of the day-you can play. Work hard and then you can go on vacation.

Those days are over I have news for you those days are over remember that saying all work and no play makes Johnny an unhappy camper. Or something to that effect right?. Now replace Johnny with your name. You get the picture right?

545102__all-work-and-no-play-jack_pI mentioned above that the solution lies in marrying the two together (Both work and play) What happens then?

Creativity and Spirituality

The beautiful duo of spirituality (the unique and personal way that we see, feel, and taste the world around us) and creativity (our unique and personal efforts, actions, expression that we put out into the world) is a great antidote for the work and play conundrum.

To live a certain way we must WORK at it and yet we have to WORK hard at giving ourselves permission to PLAY it seems.

But if we view all of life, all of what we do, the good, the bad and the ugly with a joyful heart, a sense of pride and a knowing that there is a better way if we want it-then that changes everything.

Then we no longer have to work so hard at finding time to play and work can become fun (all of our obligations, all of our roles, duties and actions have meaning)

We are part of a bigger picture that needs to be uncovered

We are a part of a bigger picture that we are only now beginning to uncover but we really need to allow ourselves to uncover it to understand it.  And I don’t know about you-but that is certainly a concept that I am willing to “play” with. What about you?
